March 24, 2023

It’s with a heavy heart we report David N. Mowry, Sr., 84, of Hartwood, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He was born on May 22, 1938, to Frank and Gertrude Mowry of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania.

David married his wife of 62 years, Virginia Mowry on January 3, 1961 and they had three children.

David was a public servant and retired from Quantico Fire Department after 30 years of service. After retiring, David served his community as a bus driver for Stafford County Public Schools for over 20 years. David was a founding member of Hartwood Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of Hartwood and Falmouth Volunteer Fire Departments.

David was affectionately known as Goatman by those in the community, his friends, and family. Goatman was always making those around him laugh and smile. If you ever road his school bus, you always seemed to get home a little sooner. David served his community throughout his life, but his greatest achievement was his love and dedication to his wife and family.

David is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters Kathy Clore and Debbie Gracik (Jimmy); son David Mowry, Jr. (Stacy); grandchildren Jacob (Victoria), Jadon, and Isabella; and great-grandchildren Kellen and Tripp who lovingly called him Pops. He is also survived by his three sisters; a sister-in-law; two brother-in-laws; along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and son-in-law Jimmy Clore.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 27 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Mowry, Jr. and Mr. Jacob Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local fire and rescue departments.
